Walnut Street Reconstruction and Utility Improvements Project

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The City of La Crescent will be reconstructing Walnut Street from South 3rd Street north to North 4th Street, and Walnut Place from North 4th Street north to the dead end. The layout of the improvements is based on recommendations from the City of La Crescent Walnut Street Corridor Plan, which was adopted on December 11, 2023, as well as input from the City of La Crescent Economic Development Commission, Planning Commission and City Council. 

Proposed improvements include:

  • New concrete curb and gutter and bituminous pavement
  • A 6’ wide concrete walk along the west side of Walnut Street and a 10’ wide concrete sidewalk along the east side of Walnut Street beginning north of South 3rd Street
  • A 10’ wide concrete walk along the north side of North 4th Street from Walnut Street to Walnut Place, and along the west side of Walnut Place to Veterans Park
  • New watermain and water services on Walnut Street and Walnut Place
  • New street lighting
  • Streetscaping, including landscaping of curb bumpouts, boulevard trees, and amenities such as wayfinding signage, bicycle racks, water fountains, planters, trash cans, and benches

Public Engagement

  • A second public engagement meeting is scheduled for the week of January 5, 2026

Schedule

  • Construction is anticipated to start in the Spring of 2026 and end in November 2026
